What we collect, and why
When you send us a message
The enquiry form on the contact page asks for your name, your email address, the nature of your enquiry, and your message. Naming your organisation is optional. We use all of it for one purpose: to understand your enquiry and reply to it. Every message goes to our general enquiries inbox.
Giving us this information is voluntary. Without a name and a working email address we cannot reply, so those two fields are required.
When you simply visit
Our hosting provider records standard server information for every request: the IP address making it, the page requested, the time, and the browser and device type reported. This is ordinary web-server logging, used to keep the site available and to diagnose faults. We do not use it to build a profile of you.
Cookies and similar storage
This site sets no cookies and runs no advertising scripts. We do not track you across other websites, and nothing here builds a profile of you.
We do measure how the site is used, through Vercel Web Analytics. It records the page visited, the referring site, and coarse details such as country, browser and device type. It sets no cookie and stores no identifier on your device, so it cannot follow you between visits or to anywhere else. Page counts are what we see; individual people are not.
Third parties who process information on our behalf
Running the site involves a small number of service providers. Each receives only what its function requires.
- Vercel hosts the site, keeps the server logs described above, and provides the cookieless usage measurement described above.
- Formspree receives enquiry-form submissions and forwards them to our inbox.
These providers operate servers outside South Africa, so sending a message or loading a page involves a transfer of personal information across borders, as contemplated by section 72 of POPIA. Each of them is bound by data-protection commitments comparable to those POPIA requires.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for marketing.
How long we keep it
Enquiries are kept for as long as the conversation they belong to is live, and for three years after our last contact with you, so that we can pick up a thread where it left off. After that they are deleted. Where an enquiry becomes a funding relationship or a school engagement, the records that flow from it are kept for the periods South African tax, company and nonprofit law require of us.
Keeping it secure
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to enquiry correspondence is limited to the staff who need it to respond. We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access and unlawful processing, as section 19 of POPIA requires. No system is perfect, and if a breach affecting your information occurs we will notify you and the Information Regulator as the Act requires.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you, and ask for a copy of it.
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate, or complete anything missing.
- Ask us to delete information we no longer have grounds to keep.
- Object to our processing of your information on legitimate-interest grounds.
- Withdraw any consent you have given, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it.
Write to us through the contact page and we will respond within a reasonable period. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
Children
This site is aimed at adults: school leaders, district officials, funders and prospective coaches. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through it. Our programme work in schools involves learners only indirectly, through the leadership teams we coach, and any information arising there is governed by our agreements with the school and the provincial education department rather than by this notice.
Changes to this notice
We will update this page when what we do changes. The date at the top of the page always reflects the current version.
